According to a research by industry association Nasscom, more than half of India’s technology workforce will likely return to work three times a week starting in January 2022.
According to the research ‘Nasscom Return to Workplace Survey,’ both employers and employees are equally interested in returning to the workplace in a hybrid arrangement, with junior and senior management (under 25 and over 40 years) being more eager to do so than middle management. The trend was also seen among female employees.
In order to understand their expectations, important factors, and preparedness, the study polled both tech employees and employers about their plans to return to offices.
“The way tech organizations operate business operations has experienced a major transformation over the last one-and-a-half years,” Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh stated in the study. “The industry is currently preparing to reopen gradually, and it is working on creating a hybrid operating model that combines the best of both onsite and distant operating methods.”
The following is from the report:
-
- Over 70% of companies want to use a hybrid work model, with IT services and global capability centers expected to be early adopters of a long-term hybrid work model.
-
- When it came to reopening offices, 81 percent of companies stated employee health and safety was a top priority.
-
- Around 72% responded that from next year, they would consider operating at a maximum of 50% personnel capacity.
“”Many assumed that the future of work was’remote’ since the epidemic struck businesses throughout the world, forcing people indoors,” said Sashi Kumar, head of sales (India) at Indeed.com. “However, organisations and employees eventually understood that remote work is a result of the epidemic, not a matured approach to workplace design,” says the report.
Employees want more ‘flexible’ workplaces that allow them to work from home, according to Indeed’s most recent recruiting tracker. “The ‘Nasscom Return to Workplace Survey’ echoes this attitude, with more than half of companies and workers favouring a hybrid model for returning to work, demonstrating that the future of work is hybrid.” “Kumar stated his opinion.
